Jaipur: Preparations for the upcoming Panchayat elections in Rajasthan have gained momentum. Ahead of the formal announcement of election dates, the State Election Commission has issued important instructions to district administrations to ensure timely and smooth conduct of the polls.
According to the orders issued by Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Verma, photo-based Panchayat voter lists are being prepared using the existing Assembly constituency electoral rolls. The final publication of the Panchayat voter list is scheduled for February 25.
The Commission has clarified that this will be the final voter list for the Panchayat elections. No changes will be allowed once it is published. Only those voters whose names appear on this final list will be eligible to cast their votes in the Panchayat polls.
It has been decided that elections for Panch and Sarpanch posts will be conducted using ballot papers, while elections for District Council and Panchayat Samiti members are likely to be held through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). For this purpose, EVMs are being procured from the Madhya Pradesh State Election Commission.
Due to issues related to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and OBC reservation, Panchayat and urban local body elections in Rajasthan have been repeatedly postponed, creating uncertainty. However, following directives from the High Court, the State Election Commission has accelerated preparations.
The High Court has instructed that Panchayat and urban local body elections must be completed before April 15, increasing the likelihood of an early announcement of the election schedule.
