
New Delhi, May 14: India’s External Affairs Minister, Dr. S. Jaishankar, engaged in significant discussions with Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira and Maldives’ Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam during the 2026 BRICS Summit. The meetings focused on bilateral, regional, and global issues, emphasizing India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and collaboration under its BRICS presidency.
Dr. Jaishankar expressed his pleasure in meeting Brazil’s Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira, stating on the social media platform ‘X’, “It’s always great to meet Mauro Vieira. This time, our meeting took place during the BRICS Summit 2026. We exchanged views on bilateral, regional, and global issues. We value Brazil’s support and perspective regarding India’s BRICS presidency.”
In another post, he noted his positive interaction with Maldives’ Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, who was on her first official visit to India. They highlighted the importance of India’s ‘Neighborhood First’ policy and reviewed their bilateral cooperation, reaffirming India’s commitment to the progress and development of the Maldives.
Earlier, Dr. Jaishankar also met with South Africa’s Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola. He shared on ‘X’, “I was pleased to meet Ronald Lamola this evening. We reviewed various aspects of our strategic partnership and discussed multilateral issues of mutual interest. We agreed on the need to expedite our dialogue through institutional mechanisms.”
Minister Ronald Lamola arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the arrival of the foreign ministers at Bharat Mandapam is scheduled for 10 AM on May 14, followed by the first session at 10:30 AM. A joint meeting with Prime Minister Modi will take place at ‘Seva Teerth’ at 1 PM.
The second session will commence at 3:10 PM, and a dinner hosted by Minister Jaishankar will be held at Bharat Mandapam at 7 PM. The third session is set to begin at 10 AM on May 15.
During this time, the Ministry’s spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, shared images on ‘X’, warmly welcoming Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who arrived in Delhi to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting.
