Chandigarh, May 14: Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria has taken significant steps in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for thriftiness and fuel conservation. He has instructed officials to refrain from using four-wheelers on Wednesdays, encouraging them to opt for bicycles or public transport instead.
In an interview with a news agency, Governor Kataria stated, “I have directed officials not to use any four-wheelers on Wednesdays. We will start with ourselves and then appeal to the public.” He has also minimized his convoy to essential vehicles only, directing security agencies to reduce the number of cars in his entourage.
Additionally, he announced changes for schools, urging that all students should travel to school by bicycle or on foot at least one day a week instead of using scooters or cars. He appealed to employees to use bicycles or public transport at least once a week.
On the topic of the NEET UG-2026 paper leak, the Governor expressed that it was unfortunate. He noted, “During the Congress era, paper leaks became common. This is very wrong.” He called for stricter laws to ensure that offenders receive life sentences and suggested that coaching centers found involved in such scandals should be shut down.
Discussing the results of the 12th-grade examinations, Gulab Chand Kataria mentioned that Punjab’s results were 1% lower compared to last year. While the national decline was 3%, Punjab’s student success rate decreased by 1.25%. He emphasized the need to focus not only on passing percentages but also on the quality of education.
