India and Uzbekistan Hold 17th Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 14: India and Uzbekistan convened the 17th round of Foreign Office Consultations in New Delhi on Wednesday. The discussions focused on enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in trade, investment, tourism, technology, innovation, energy, education, and other sectors.

Both parties also addressed regional and global issues of mutual interest.

Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal announced on the social media platform ‘X’, “The 17th round of India-Uzbekistan Foreign Office Consultations took place on May 13 in New Delhi, co-chaired by Secretary (West) Sibi George and Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhramjon Aloyev.”

He noted that the two nations reviewed their comprehensive bilateral relations, emphasizing trade, investment, tourism, technology, innovation, energy, education, cultural cooperation, and consular matters. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues.

India and Uzbekistan share a long-standing historical connection. India was among the first countries to recognize Uzbekistan’s sovereignty after its independence. The protocol for establishing diplomatic relations was signed in Tashkent in 1992. In 2011, India and Uzbekistan elevated their partnership to a ‘Strategic Partnership.’

Earlier in the day, Uzbekistan’s First Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhramjon Aloyev arrived in New Delhi to participate in the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting hosted by India.

The MEA warmly welcomed Deputy Foreign Minister Bakhramjon Zoraboyevich Aloyev upon his arrival in New Delhi for the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar will chair the BRICS Foreign Ministers’ meeting scheduled for May 14-15. The MEA announced this information on Tuesday.

India is holding the BRICS presidency in 2026, with the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability.’ This theme reflects an approach centered on people and humanity, as emphasized by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025.
