Raipur, May 14: In a significant operation, security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district have dealt a severe blow to the Maoist movement’s logistical and financial backbone. Following several crucial joint operations, the Bijapur police, along with the District Reserve Guard, Special Task Force, Cobra units, and CRPF teams, successfully uncovered hidden Maoist hideouts.
During these operations, they seized a substantial amount of cash, lethal weapons, and explosives. The teams recovered ₹6.55 million in cash and a cache of 32 advanced weapons, including light machine guns, self-loading rifles, and carbines.
This success is part of a broader and ongoing campaign that has led to the recovery of over ₹200 million in assets since the beginning of 2024, which includes a significant gold stash valued at approximately ₹130 million.
Superintendent of Police Jitendra Kumar Yadav stated that the campaign is motivated by the strategic objective of declaring Bijapur a Maoist-free zone by both the central and Chhattisgarh governments.
The discovery of these hideouts was made possible through an extensive intelligence network and increasing cooperation from local villagers, who provided crucial information about secret locations hidden in the national park area and the rugged terrains of the Kovergutta forests.
In addition to the weapons, teams seized and safely destroyed 140 kilograms of ammonium nitrate and urea, materials commonly used for making explosive devices.
This operation has severely impacted the Maoists’ ability to acquire weapons and maintain their supply chain, marking a significant achievement in the broader efforts to restore peace in the region.
Statistics from the period of 2025 to 2026 highlight the effectiveness of this sustained pressure, with a total of 461 weapons recovered from the district during this timeframe alone.
Since the beginning of 2024, security forces have neutralized 234 Maoists and assisted in the rehabilitation of over 1,000 individuals, indicating further progress towards stability and development. By destroying these strategic caches of cash and equipment, the joint forces have not only weakened the operational capacity of the Maoists but also strengthened security mechanisms in remote areas.
