Two Pregnant Women Give Birth on Moving Trains with Railway Staffs Help

Mumbai, May 14: In a remarkable display of teamwork, two pregnant women safely gave birth to baby girls on crowded trains operated by Central Railway. The successful deliveries were made possible with the assistance of railway staff, nurses, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), and fellow passengers.

The first incident occurred on the Kushinagar Express, train number 22538, traveling from Mumbai to Bhusawal. According to railway officials, Chief Ticket Inspector R.S. Teli was on duty along the Bhusawal section. Shortly after the train passed Kalyan station, a passenger alerted him that a pregnant woman was experiencing severe labor pains.

With the general compartment crowded, the woman’s condition deteriorated. Railway staff and passengers quickly moved her to a doorway near the A-1 coach. During this critical moment, a nurse named Pooja Khadke, who was also traveling in the general compartment, stepped forward to assist. With her help, the woman delivered a healthy baby girl while the train was still in motion.

Following the delivery, the Centralized Control Office Room (CCOR) at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus was notified. An ambulance, stretcher, doctor, and Deputy Station Superintendent were arranged at Igatpuri station. Upon arrival, both mother and newborn were taken to the railway hospital, where their conditions were reported as stable and secure.

The second incident took place on the Pune-Supaul Express, where another pregnant woman safely delivered a baby girl under the Central Railway’s ‘Operation Maatrushakti’ initiative. The train had departed from Pune Railway Station on time and was heading towards Supaul district in Bihar.

Rukhsana Khatoon, 28, was traveling with her husband Jameel Belawar. The couple, originally from Uttar Pradesh, planned to disembark at Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction in Chandauli district. However, as the train approached Ahilyanagar station, Rukhsana suddenly went into labor. Due to the train’s high speed and the crowded compartment, immediate medical assistance was challenging.

Upon receiving information about the situation, railway officials promptly activated ‘Operation Maatrushakti.’ RPF personnel, railway staff, and passengers collaborated to facilitate a safe delivery. Subsequently, both mother and newborn received medical attention, and their conditions were reported as stable.

These incidents highlight the vital role that railway employees, security forces, doctors, and passengers play in providing immediate assistance during medical emergencies, ultimately saving the lives of mothers and their newborns.
