Bhubaneswar, May 14: Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati has expressed strong support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for ‘economic self-defense’ aimed at enhancing the nation’s economic stability and security.
Emphasizing the importance of economic strength and self-reliance for the long-term prosperity and strategic interests of the country, the Governor stated that public awareness and responsible consumption can significantly contribute to strengthening the economy.
Highlighting his commitment to sustainability, Kambhampati noted that all vehicles in his convoy are electric, and the Lok Bhawan operates entirely on solar energy, establishing itself as a model ‘net-zero’ campus.
He mentioned that the Lok Bhawan encourages its employees to transition from petrol and diesel vehicles to electric ones. “They can charge their vehicles for free at Lok Bhawan. This is one of the incentives provided to our officials and staff,” he added.
To further this initiative, the Governor has written to the vice-chancellors of all state universities, urging them to celebrate at least one “Combustion Engine-Free Day” each week.
He also encouraged students and youth to adopt bicycles, electric vehicles, and public transport in their daily lives.
Kambhampati appealed to all administrative officials and staff to minimize unnecessary use of government vehicles and actively contribute to fuel-saving efforts.
Referring to the Prime Minister’s appeal to postpone gold purchases for at least a year and reduce the consumption of cooking oil, he stated, “Saving fuel, promoting indigenous products, encouraging natural farming, and reducing cooking oil consumption are not just acts of conservation; they are essential steps toward strengthening and protecting our nation.”
Calling for collective participation, Governor Kambhampati urged citizens from all walks of life to heed Prime Minister Modi’s advice and join this national mission with a sense of responsibility and patriotism.
He concluded, “Every conscious step taken towards saving fuel and reducing unnecessary consumption strengthens the economic resilience and collective future of our country. By adopting responsible and sustainable practices today, we can contribute to building a self-reliant, secure, and prosperous India for future generations.”
