Priyanka Gandhi Questions Accountability After NEET Candidates Alleged Suicide

New Delhi, May 15: Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed her sorrow on Friday regarding the alleged suicide of a NEET exam candidate in Lakhimpur Kheri, Uttar Pradesh. She highlighted the recurring irregularities and corruption in competitive examinations that lead to cancellations, jeopardizing the futures of millions of students each year.

In a post on the social media platform X, Priyanka Gandhi stated, “The news of student Hrithik Mishra’s suicide in Lakhimpur Kheri is extremely tragic. My heartfelt condolences go out to Hrithik’s grieving parents and family.”

She further noted, “According to the victim’s family, Hrithik was under immense mental stress due to the cancellation of the NEET exam. The rampant corruption in examinations is costing young lives. Every year, millions of students’ futures are ruined.”

Priyanka Gandhi also posed critical questions to the government, asking when this cycle of despair would end and when accountability would be established.

Hrithik Mishra reportedly took his own life at his residence in Lakhimpur Kheri on Thursday. His family mentioned that he had taken the NEET-UG exam in Kanpur on May 3. Since the exam’s cancellation, he had been deeply troubled and suffering from mental stress. The police are currently investigating the entire incident.

Following allegations of paper leaks from several examination centers, the National Testing Agency (NTA) canceled the NEET-UG 2026 exam held on May 3. The exam is now rescheduled to take place on June 21.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently probing the paper leak case, investigating the alleged racket involved in the leaking and dissemination of the exam papers.

So far, the agency has conducted multiple raids across various states and arrested seven individuals in connection with the case.

It is noteworthy that Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced a significant decision regarding the NEET paper leak, stating that a new exam date has been set following the cancellation. The re-examination will occur on June 21. Pradhan also revealed that starting next year, the NEET-UG exam will be conducted in a computer-based format instead of the traditional OMR-based system.
