Gandarbhal, June 4: In preparation for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026, Kashmir IGP V.K. Birdi visited the Baltal base camp alongside DIG Central Kashmir Range Rajeev Pandey and SSP Gandarbhal Sudhanshu Dhama. During the visit, they reviewed the progress of security and logistics arrangements for the smooth conduct of the pilgrimage.
The officials inspected various facilities established for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (JKP) and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) personnel deployed for the yatra. They assessed the readiness of security infrastructure, accommodation, communication facilities, and other essential arrangements at the base camp.
IGP Birdi emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts among all stakeholders to ensure a safe, secure, and unobstructed pilgrimage. He instructed the relevant authorities to maintain the highest standards of preparedness and ensure that all arrangements are completed well before the yatra begins.
The Gandarbhal police are committed to providing a secure environment for the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 and facilitating its smooth operation.
It is noteworthy that a day prior, the Srinagar police welcomed the CRPF companies deployed by the central government for duty during the upcoming yatra. These CAPF companies have arrived in Srinagar with the aim of enhancing security and facilitating the comfort of pilgrims during the Amarnath Yatra 2026. The Srinagar police warmly welcomed these personnel.
Police officials stated that all security agencies are collaborating to ensure the safety and smooth operation of the yatra. Improved coordination and cooperation between the CAPF and local police will further strengthen security arrangements during the pilgrimage. To ensure the comfort and operational readiness of the deployed forces, the Srinagar police have made extensive arrangements, including housing, boarding, lodging, transportation, medical assistance, communication facilities, and other essential logistics.
CAPF officials and personnel appreciated the warm welcome and the arrangements made by the Srinagar police for their stay and deployment.
This year’s 57-day Shri Amarnath Yatra will commence on July 3 and conclude on August 28, coinciding with the festivals of Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. The cave temple, located at an altitude of 8,880 meters, features an ice formation that waxes and wanes with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe this ice formation symbolizes the legendary powers of Lord Shiva.
Pilgrims can reach the cave temple via the traditional long Pahalgam route in Anantnag district or the shorter Baltal route in Gandarbhal district. Helicopter services are also available for travelers on both routes.
