Patna, June 4: Political tensions surrounding government residences in Bihar continue to escalate. The state government has made a significant decision regarding the Chief Minister’s residence, opting not to link the 5 Desh Ratna Marg residence with the official CM residence at 1 Aney Marg.
The Building Construction Department has revoked the previous notification that connected 5 Desh Ratna Marg to the Chief Minister’s residence. According to an official order issued by the department, the residence at 1 Aney Marg (designated for public servants) was temporarily marked as an extension of 5 Desh Ratna Marg due to ongoing repairs.
Now that the repairs at 1 Aney Marg are complete, the temporary allocation of 5 Desh Ratna Marg is being canceled. Notably, Samrat Chaudhary resided at 5 Desh Ratna Marg before becoming Chief Minister.
The opposition has been vocal in its criticism of the government regarding this issue. Political debates over government housing allocations have intensified in Bihar. Former Chief Minister Rabri Devi has been ordered to vacate her residence but has refused to comply.
Following this, leaders from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) protested the government’s decision to add another residence to the Chief Minister’s official accommodations. RJD General Secretary Abdul Bari Siddiqui held a press conference, stating that the residence of the Chief Minister of the country’s poorest state resembles a luxurious, seven-star mansion. He emphasized that Samrat Chaudhary’s residence is even larger than the Prime Minister’s official residence.
Previously, the Chief Minister had merged the residence at 5 Desh Ratna Marg, designated for the former Deputy Chief Minister, into the Chief Minister’s official residence. Additionally, CM Samrat Chaudhary has opted for a Type-8 bungalow in Delhi instead of the Bihar Niwas and Bihar Bhawan, expanding his residence to over 15 acres.
