New Delhi, June 4: The FIFA World Cup 2026 is set to kick off on June 11. This 23rd edition will be hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. For the first time, 48 teams will participate, with a total of 104 matches scheduled. The history of football is filled with remarkable players who have not only led their teams to victory but have also made their names known worldwide through their outstanding performances in the World Cup.

Let’s take a look at which players hold the record for the most wins in the FIFA World Cup.

Germany’s Miroslav Klose holds the record for the most match wins in FIFA World Cup history. Klose played 24 World Cup matches for Germany, achieving 17 victories.

Brazil’s Cafu follows closely with 16 wins in 20 matches. Argentina’s Lionel Messi has also secured 16 wins, but in 26 matches, placing them both in a tie for second place.

Next in line are Germany’s Wolfgang Overath, Brazil’s Ronaldo, and fellow Germans Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, and Lothar Matthäus. Overath recorded 15 wins in 19 matches, while Ronaldo also achieved 15 wins in 19 matches. Lahm and Schweinsteiger each have 15 wins in 20 matches, and Matthäus has 15 wins in 25 matches.

Brazil’s Lucio has 14 wins in 17 matches, Germany’s Franz Beckenbauer has 14 wins in 18 matches, France’s Olivier Giroud and Antoine Griezmann each have 14 wins in 18 and 19 matches respectively. Germany’s Per Mertesacker and France’s Hugo Lloris also achieved 14 wins in 19 and 20 matches, while Italy’s Paolo Maldini secured 14 wins in 23 matches.
