
Mumbai, June 4: The film industry is in mourning following the news of the passing of renowned filmmaker and former chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Pahlaj Nihalani. He passed away at the age of 76, leaving a significant void in the cinematic world. Many artists, directors, and producers connected to the industry have paid heartfelt tributes, reminiscing about their moments with him.
Filmmaker Anees Bazmee expressed his deep sorrow over Nihalani’s demise. He stated, “This is a very sad day for me. Our relationship spans three to four decades. I worked with him on several films, including notable titles like ‘Aag Hi Aag’ and ‘Shola Aur Shabnam.’ He was a generous and helpful person. All his friends and colleagues in the film industry are in shock today. We have lost a great producer and a wonderful human being.”
Actor Govind Namdev also shared his grief, saying, “I am deeply saddened by his passing. Pahlaj Ji played a significant role in my early film career. He gave me my first film, ‘Shola Aur Shabnam,’ which allowed me to step into the Hindi film industry. Without that opportunity, my journey in cinema might not have been as smooth. He was not just a producer but also a crucial mentor in my career.”
Director and producer Sunil Darshan remembered Nihalani as an integral part of the film industry. He remarked, “He was a vital figure in the industry. Over his nearly 50-year career, he worked in various roles. He was a successful producer, active in film distribution, and later took on the responsibilities of CBFC chairperson. The loss of someone who had such a long and impactful journey is a significant blow to the entire film world. He was calm and gentle, and people will always remember him with respect and love.”
Pahlaj Nihalani’s cinematic journey began in 1982 with the film ‘Hathkadi.’ He went on to produce several successful films, including ‘Aandhi-Toofan,’ ‘Ilzaam,’ ‘Aag Hi Aag,’ ‘Shola Aur Shabnam,’ ‘Aankhen,’ ‘Andaaz,’ ‘Talash,’ ‘Julie 2,’ and ‘Rangila Raja.’ His films not only achieved box office success but also held a special place in the hearts of audiences.
