New Delhi, June 4: Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez visited Raj Ghat in New Delhi on Thursday to pay homage to Mahatma Gandhi. During her visit, she emphasized that Gandhi’s ideals remain relevant to India-Venezuela relations today.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs shared on X, “Saluting Bapu’s enduring legacy,” as Rodríguez paid her respects at Raj Ghat. The ministry noted that Gandhi’s thoughts inspire the partnership between the two nations.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi held an extensive bilateral meeting with Rodríguez in Delhi. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in energy, trade, investment, health, automotive, and other sectors. Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary, and other senior officials were also present at the meeting.
According to an official statement, both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India-Venezuela relations and emphasized identifying new areas for collaboration. They exchanged views on global and regional issues as well.
Both parties reiterated their commitment to advancing the interests of the “Global South” and strengthening cooperation among developing countries.
The Ministry of External Affairs stated on X, “Prime Minister Modi had extensive discussions with Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez on various issues. This visit is an opportunity to further strengthen the growing ties between India and Venezuela.” The Venezuelan delegation also visited sites related to energy, pharmaceuticals, and automotive sectors in India to understand technical and industrial capabilities and explore new collaboration opportunities.
In recent years, cooperation in the energy sector between India and Venezuela has increased, with both countries advocating for a stronger role for the “Global South” on global economic and diplomatic platforms.
Rodríguez arrived in Delhi on Wednesday for a five-day visit, which the Ministry of External Affairs described as a significant step in accelerating bilateral relations.
