Trump Calls Congressional Vote on War Powers Futile

Washington, June 4: President Donald Trump has labeled the recent congressional vote aimed at limiting presidential powers for military action against Iran as “futile.” He expressed his frustration on his social media platform, Truth Social.

The House of Representatives recently passed a bill with a vote of 215-208, designed to prevent the president from conducting military operations against Iran without congressional approval. Notably, four Republican lawmakers joined Democrats in supporting the measure.

In his response, Trump stated that the vote occurred while his administration was in the final stages of negotiations to end the conflict with Iran. He wrote, “Yesterday, the House held a meaningless vote. Four useless Republicans and all Democrats voted to limit my war powers while I am in final talks to end the war with Iran. Who would act against the country?”

Trump criticized the Democratic Party, accusing them of suffering from “Trump Derangement Syndrome” and refusing to acknowledge any of his accomplishments. He claimed that Democrats prioritize their political failures over the nation’s success.

The president also condemned the four Republican lawmakers who supported the bill, labeling them as “grandstanders” and suggesting they should be ashamed of their actions.

On Wednesday, the House passed a bipartisan ‘War Powers Resolution’ aimed at ending U.S. military action against Iran. This move is seen as a political setback for Trump. The proposal was introduced by senior Democrat Gregory Meeks and received support from prominent Democrats like Adam Smith and Jim Himes. It passed by a very narrow margin.

Meeks described the passage as a significant turning point, stating, “The passage of my ‘War Powers Resolution’ represents bipartisan opposition to President Trump’s illegal and costly war against Iran and is the first step toward completely ending it.”
