Navi Mumbai, June 4: The Maharashtra Cyber Department has arrested a young man from Navi Mumbai for allegedly selling and distributing child sexual exploitation and abuse material (CSEAM) through Telegram.
The accused has been identified as Adiraj Rajendra Bait. Following a technical investigation and intelligence gathering, the Maharashtra Cyber Department transferred him to the NRI police station in Navi Mumbai.
According to officials, CSEAM includes any visual content depicting minors engaged in sexual activities. This encompasses photographs, videos, live streaming, and even images generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
The Maharashtra Cyber team received information about the dissemination of objectionable content on digital platforms. Subsequently, an investigation was initiated using technical tools, confirming that the activities were being operated from Maharashtra.
During the investigation, officials conducted an in-depth analysis of a UPI ID and inputs obtained from open-source intelligence (OSINT). Following this, Adiraj Bait was summoned for questioning.
His mobile phone was seized during the interrogation, and a digital forensic examination was conducted. The forensic analysis revealed that the accused had stored child sexual exploitation material on his phone, which he was preparing to sell and further distribute.
Based on the evidence gathered during the investigation, the Maharashtra Cyber Department registered a criminal case against him and handed him over to the Navi Mumbai police for further action.
Established in 2016, the Maharashtra State Cyber Department’s Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) office serves as the nodal agency for cybercrime cases in the state. The department continuously monitors the dark web and other online platforms to take effective action against cybercrimes, particularly those related to child exploitation.
Maharashtra Cyber has issued a warning that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found involved in such crimes through social media, messaging apps, the dark web, or any digital medium.
