Noida, June 4: A sudden storm accompanied by heavy rain on June 4 brought much-needed relief from the intense heat in Noida and surrounding areas, including Delhi. The weather changed dramatically in the afternoon, with dark clouds and strong winds rolling in. The ensuing rain significantly lowered temperatures, providing respite from the humidity and heat.
However, the downpour exposed the city’s inadequate infrastructure. The strong winds caused several trees to fall in various neighborhoods. Near the Sector-76 metro station, a large tree collapsed onto the road, disrupting traffic. This incident led to long queues of vehicles as commuters faced significant delays.
Additionally, heavy traffic congestion was reported on Barola Hanuman Murti Road, where vehicles crawled along. Many parts of the city also experienced waterlogging after the rain. The main road in Sector-58 was flooded, hindering vehicle movement, while the Sector-62 underpass also faced similar issues, causing difficulties for drivers.
Numerous two-wheelers got stuck in the water, and four-wheelers had to navigate cautiously. Local residents expressed frustration, stating that every year, claims are made about improving drainage systems before the monsoon, yet the reality becomes evident with the first heavy rain.
Blocked drains in several areas resulted in rainwater accumulating on the streets, complicating travel for many. While the rain brought a pleasant change in weather and relief from the heat, it also raised questions about the preparedness of the Noida Authority.
The flooding and traffic disruptions across various neighborhoods highlighted that the measures taken to manage the rains are still insufficient. According to the meteorological department, strong winds and light to moderate rain are expected in the coming days.
