New Delhi, June 4: Former Australian cricketer Shaun Tait has confirmed his resignation from the position of fast bowling coach for Bangladesh. He stepped down with immediate effect, concluding a tenure that lasted just over a year, despite an initial contract that was set to run until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Tait joined the Bangladesh coaching staff in May 2025 but has decided to leave due to family commitments. He expressed his satisfaction with his year-long journey with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the national team. “I want to thank the BCB. I really enjoyed working with the players. I have built great relationships with the fast bowling group, and it has been a pleasure to work with them,” Tait told ESPNcricinfo.
He added, “I don’t think my time in this country is completely over. There are obviously the BPL and other things. No one knows what the future holds. But for now, my small family needs a bit more of my time. After a full year of playing a full-time role in red and white-ball cricket, my 12 months have been quite enough. It’s time for me to step back a little and give my family some more time.”
During Tait’s tenure, Bangladesh’s fast bowling unit became a more formidable force across all formats, with several young fast bowlers making significant progress. One of the standout success stories was the rise of Nahid Rana, whose impressive speed and growing impact have made him one of Bangladesh’s most exciting prospects. Tait is often credited with nurturing this young fast bowler during a crucial phase of his career.
Tait has experience working in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) and has also served as a coach for Pakistan and Afghanistan. The BCB is expected to fill the position soon, with former Bangladeshi fast bowler Talha Jubair emerging as a top contender to lead the pace attack for the upcoming Australia series.
