DMK to Boycott Indi Alliance Meeting, Accuses Congress of Betrayal

Chennai, June 4: The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) has announced its decision to boycott the Indi Alliance meeting scheduled for June 8 in New Delhi. The party cited Congress’s alleged “betrayal” following the Tamil Nadu assembly elections as the reason behind this decision.

The DMK stated that it was invited to participate in the Indi Alliance meeting. However, respecting the sentiments of its party workers, it has chosen to stay away from the event. The party claims that its members are deeply hurt by Congress’s attitude after the Tamil Nadu elections.

In a statement, the DMK emphasized its commitment to safeguarding democracy, secularism, and the rights of states. The party highlighted its opposition to various issues, including the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), constituency delimitation, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), the functioning of the Election Commission, the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, amendments to the Waqf Act, and changes to the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

The DMK has stated that it has utilized democratic means such as parliamentary debates, interventions in legislative forums, public movements, and legal actions to address these issues.

The party also claimed that it has played a significant role in the formation and operation of the Indi Alliance, being one of the key pillars of this opposition coalition from the beginning.

DMK President M.K. Stalin has consistently voiced concerns on matters of national importance, and his contributions to the alliance have been acknowledged by other parties as well.

However, the DMK clarified that there is considerable discontent among its party workers regarding Congress’s behavior post-Tamil Nadu elections, which cannot be overlooked. This discontent is the primary reason for the decision to abstain from the meeting that includes Congress.

Despite this, the DMK affirmed its commitment to raising its voice on issues of national interest and will continue to express its views on significant topics within the opposition and the Indi Alliance.
