New Delhi, February 20: The Congress party has announced a nationwide public relations campaign against the India-US trade agreement. This information was shared by Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh.

The decision was made during a meeting attended by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, and state Congress presidents from Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu also participated in the meeting.

After the meeting, Jairam Ramesh informed reporters that the party will kick off a series of farmer conferences starting from Bhopal on February 24, which will be addressed by Kharge and Gandhi. The next conference is scheduled for March 7 in Yavatmal, Maharashtra, followed by another in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan later in March.

Ramesh highlighted that the meeting focused on the India-US trade agreement. The Congress believes this agreement was made under pressure and will adversely affect farmers producing cotton, soybeans, corn, fruits, and nuts. Initially, the party will raise this issue in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, with plans to expand the campaign to other states and engage directly with the public.

He noted that both Kharge and Gandhi referred to this agreement as Prime Minister Modi’s second ‘surrender,’ recalling the abrupt halt of Operation Sindoor on May 10, 2025, as the first.

Ramesh stated that just as farmers’ organizations conducted a prolonged protest against three agricultural laws, Congress will collaborate with these organizations to highlight the impacts of the trade agreement.

Kharge took to social media platform X, asserting that the India-US trade deal is not a genuine agreement but a ‘trap deal’ that compromises farmers’ interests. He emphasized that the Indian National Congress will organize farmer conferences to bring this issue to villages across the nation.
