Oslo, May 19: Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to visit India this year. He will participate in the BRICS Summit 2026 scheduled for September. According to West Asia expert V.L. Awad, this visit is crucial and will provide India with a significant boost on the international stage.
Awad emphasized the importance of Putin’s trip, especially in light of the rapidly changing geopolitical landscape, including the Russia-Ukraine conflict and ongoing tensions in West Asia. He stated, “This visit is essential as it positions India as an emerging economy and military power.”
He further noted, “For Russia, relations with India are extremely important. They consider India one of their strategic assets and are unwilling to compromise on any aspect of this relationship. Russia has been supportive in supplying energy and technology to India, especially when it was most needed.”
Awad also highlighted the disruptions in supply chains in the Persian Gulf, which significantly impact global trade. “India is among the most affected by the ongoing war and its repercussions. Currently, the market reacts based on statements from the U.S. President or Iran, leading to volatility. Therefore, India cannot afford to be reliant on a single source. It aims to diversify its resources, particularly with Russia and other countries,” he added.
