BJP Leader Criticizes Congresss Dual Stance on Shashi Tharoors Statement

Ahmedabad, May 20: BJP leader Rohan Gupta has responded to Congress senior leader Shashi Tharoor’s statement regarding the benefits of the ‘SIR’ (Systematic Voter Registration). Gupta also commented on the issue of delayed payments to priests and clerics in Bengal.

In an interview with a news agency, Gupta remarked that the Congress party’s main political agenda has failed, particularly concerning the opposition to SIR and the national campaign against vote theft. He pointed out that after losing elections in Bihar, Congress blamed SIR, while in Kerala, they believed they would win and thus did not campaign against it. “Is there no vote theft in Kerala? The SIR in Kerala is good, while in Bihar it is bad. There cannot be a double standard on this issue. Where Congress wins, the SIR is acceptable. Their own leaders are admitting that SIR has been beneficial,” he stated.

Gupta emphasized that SIR is an electoral process designed to update voter lists. He criticized Congress for attempting to shift blame onto others while failing to address the issue transparently.

He further urged the Congress party to recognize that it has strayed far from its original ideology, which is why Mahatma Gandhi suggested its dissolution post-independence. “This is no longer the Congress of old. It has become a left-leaning party that disregards nationalism and focuses solely on appeasement politics,” he added.

Gupta also supported the withholding of salaries for priests and clerics in Bengal, stating, “The government’s priorities are clear. With the significant mandate given by the people, the government is operating in a 24/7 mode. Everyone is focused on their responsibilities. The promises made are being prioritized for timely fulfillment. For the people of West Bengal, this is akin to winning the fight for freedom. Everyone will receive rights, but privileges must be curtailed. This is the government’s mission, and it is progressing accordingly.”

Regarding the controversy over prayers being held on the streets, Gupta clarified that this is not a fight against any religion but against appeasement. He noted that even in Islamic countries like the UAE, Saudi Arabia, or Iran, street prayers are prohibited. “This should not be viewed through a religious lens,” he stated.

He insisted that it is a matter of order and discipline, asserting that no special rights can be granted to anyone. “Those who wish to practice their religion and pray should not be misrepresented as being against Muslims. Individuals like Arshad Madani, who exploit these issues for political gain, are the ones opposing this. Muslims themselves understand that this is not an attack on their rights. I believe people should avoid such politics,” Gupta concluded.
