New Delhi, May 19: India’s Minister of State for External Affairs and Textiles, Pabitra Margerita, recently completed an official visit to Costa Rica, Honduras, Belize, and the Commonwealth of Dominica. According to information shared by the Ministry of External Affairs, Margerita visited Costa Rica from May 8-10, Honduras from May 10-11, Belize from May 12-13, and Dominica from May 14-15.
In Costa Rica, Margerita represented India at the inauguration ceremony of the newly elected President, Laura Virginia Fernández Delgado. During this visit, she met with the new Foreign Minister, Manuel Tovar, and the Minister of Science, Innovation, Technology, and Communication, Paula Bogantes.
She engaged with the Indian community and reiterated the Indian government’s commitment to the welfare of Indians living abroad. At the University of Peace, she paid tribute by laying flowers at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi, inaugurated the ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ wall, and planted a tree under the Mother initiative.
Following the formation of a new government in Honduras in January 2026, this visit marked the first high-level delegation from India. During her time in Honduras, she held productive meetings with the country’s first Vice President, María Antonieta Mejía, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mireya Aguero, and Secretary of State for Culture, Arts, and Heritage, Yasar Handal Carcamo. She also interacted with members of the Indian community.
While in Belize, Margerita met with the Governor-General, Dame Froyla Tzalam, to discuss cooperation between the two nations. She also held bilateral meetings with cabinet members and prominent figures from various sectors, engaging with the Indian community.
Additionally, she paid homage at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the University of Belize campus and honored the Father of the Nation of Belize, George Price.
During her visit to the Commonwealth of Dominica, Margerita met with President Silvani Burton and Acting Prime Minister Dr. Irving McIntyre to discuss bilateral cooperation. She later engaged in discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Business, Trade, and Energy, Dr. Vince Henderson.
Two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to recognize the Indian Pharmacopoeia and QIP. She also visited sites implementing Quick Impact Projects under India’s grant assistance and the India-UNDP project aimed at strengthening communities in the Kalinago area. Additionally, she provided backyard gardening toolkits to needy families and planted a tree under the Mother initiative.
This trip to four nations has reinforced India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing its engagement with Central America and the Caribbean region. The visit comes at a crucial time as India seeks to deepen its partnerships with countries in Latin America and the Caribbean.
