Oslo, May 19: Iceland’s Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir highlighted the unique linguistic ties between India and Iceland on Tuesday. She expressed her fondness for the word “connection,” which Prime Minister Narendra Modi frequently used during discussions with Nordic leaders at the third India-Nordic Summit held in Oslo.
Jakobsdóttir stated, “I really like the word ‘connection.’ It is a concept that the world needs more of today.” She made this remark during a joint press conference with Modi and leaders from Nordic countries.
The Prime Minister noted that the term “connection” is deeply rooted in Icelandic culture, emphasizing that people are very dedicated to their language. She remarked, “Prime Minister Modi, this is what people need; they need more ‘connections’ today.”
Jakobsdóttir also pointed out that Modi used the word “connection” multiple times in his address. He explained that in many Nordic languages, “connection” signifies ties, relationships, and bonds, which holds the same meaning in Hindi.
Modi stated, “This is not just a similarity of words but reflects the closeness of our thoughts. Let us deepen our connections in every area and make the India-Nordic partnership a model for shared prosperity, innovation, and a sustainable future.”
The Prime Minister of Iceland praised Modi’s perspective on climate change, noting that the leader of the world’s largest democracy sends a crucial positive and progressive message on this issue.
She added, “Many people fear the changes we need to make, but here we are promoting hope, and that message should move forward.”
During the third India-Nordic Summit, Modi and Nordic leaders discussed enhancing cooperation on sustainability, innovation, clean energy, emerging technologies, and a peaceful and prosperous future.
