
New Delhi, May 20: Dr. Medha Kulkarni, a member of the Rajya Sabha, has been appointed as the chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forests, and Climate Change.
An official letter from the Rajya Sabha Secretariat, issued on Tuesday, confirms her appointment under Rule 269 of the Rajya Sabha’s operational procedures. The Chairman of the Rajya Sabha has approved her name for this significant role.
This appointment is effective from Monday. The official communication, signed by Joint Secretary Rakesh Naithani, also included a list of committee members and a background note on the committee’s functions.
The Parliamentary Standing Committee plays a crucial role in reviewing important issues, policies, and laws related to science and technology, environmental protection, forests, and climate change in the country. The committee engages in detailed discussions on government policies and plans, providing essential recommendations.
Dr. Kulkarni is recognized as a prominent leader in the Maharashtra BJP and has previously served as an MLA from Pune.
