Beijing, May 19: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in Beijing on Tuesday night for a state visit at the invitation of President Xi Jinping. This visit, taking place from May 19 to 20, marks Putin’s 25th trip to China.
According to China’s Foreign Ministry, both leaders will discuss bilateral relations, cooperation in various fields, and share views on international and regional issues of mutual benefit.
This year also commemorates the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership and the 25th anniversary of the signing of the China-Russia Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation.
A spokesperson from the Chinese Foreign Ministry stated that both sides aim to use this occasion to deepen and enhance relations between China and Russia, fostering greater stability and positive energy in the world.
Before his trip to China, Putin released a video message expressing his happiness to visit China again at President Xi Jinping’s invitation. He noted that Russia-China relations have reached an unprecedented level.
He emphasized that regular mutual visits and the Russia-China summit are crucial for exploring the vast potential of their relationship.
This is the first time Putin has delivered a video message prior to a visit. He stated that Russia and China have a firm belief in the future and will work together to develop political and economic ties while expanding cultural exchanges and people-to-people interactions.
Putin highlighted that the close strategic coordination between Russia and China plays a significant role in ensuring stability on the international stage. He added that their friendship is not directed against any third party but aims for peace and mutual prosperity.
He remarked, “Regular mutual visits and high-level dialogues between Russia and China are essential parts of our joint efforts to enhance the full range of relations between our two countries and truly unlock their unlimited potential.”
