National Volleyball Championship Begins in Varanasi with 58 Teams

Varanasi is hosting the 72nd National Volleyball Championship from 4 to 11 January at the Dr. Sampurnanand Sports Stadium in Uttar Pradesh. The tournament features 58 teams from different states, comprising over 1,000 players. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the championship virtually on Sunday morning.

In the men’s category, Group A includes Rajasthan, Haryana, Karnataka, and Jharkhand. Group B consists of Services, Tamil Nadu, Punjab, and Railways. Group C has Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana. Group D features Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Manipur.

Group E includes Kerala, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Dadra and Nagar Haveli & Daman and Diu, and Nagaland. Group F comprises Delhi, Chandigarh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Ladakh UT, and Puducherry.

For women, Group A has Kerala, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Group B includes Railways, West Bengal, Odisha, and Chandigarh. Group C consists of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Assam, Andhra Pradesh, and Manipur.

Group D features Gujarat, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Puducherry, and Nagaland. Group E includes Delhi, Telangana, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, and Ladakh. Group F comprises Tamil Nadu, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Maharashtra teams.

The league matches will be held from 4 to 7 January, followed by the quarter-finals on 8 January. Semi-final matches are scheduled for 10 January, with the medal rounds concluding the tournament on 11 January.

All teams will play in a round-robin format during the league stage. After the league, six teams—A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, and B3—will directly qualify for the knockout stage. The remaining teams will compete in playoffs among A4, B4, C1, D1, E1, and F1, with two teams advancing to the knockout rounds.
