Mumbai, May 22: Greenline Mobility Solutions Limited, a leader in green logistics under the Essar Group, has strengthened its long-term partnership with Tata Steel by launching LNG-powered trucks at Tata Steel’s Meramandali plant in Odisha.
This deployment marks another step in the ongoing collaboration among organizations to achieve carbon-free long-distance road transport across various operational sites in India. The initiative reflects a shared commitment to rapidly adopting clean fuel options and reducing carbon emissions from large-scale freight operations.
Currently, Greenline operates over 1,000 LNG and electric vehicles (EVs) on major freight routes, serving sectors such as steel, cement, mining, FMCG, and chemicals. The expanding fleet has already covered more than 90 million kilometers, resulting in a reduction of over 24,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
As part of its long-term vision to accelerate clean freight transport in the country, the company plans to deploy more than 10,000 LNG and EV trucks. These will be supported by a nationwide network of 100 LNG refueling stations, EV charging hubs, and battery swapping facilities, aiming to cut carbon emissions by 1 million tons annually.
Commenting on the deployment, Madhur Taneja, CEO of Greenline Mobility Solutions Limited, expressed satisfaction in further strengthening their partnership with Tata Steel. He noted, “Amid growing concerns over fuel dependency and energy security, LNG is emerging as a practical and comprehensive option for long-distance logistics in India. As more industries adopt clean transport solutions on a large scale, we will see a significant acceleration towards green logistics.”
Prabhat Kumar, Vice President of Supply Chain at Tata Steel, emphasized the importance of collaboration, stating, “This is not possible alone. If Tata Steel decides to green its vehicles and logistics, it cannot happen without the support and coordination of partners like Greenline. I want to thank them for their contributions.”
Operationally, Greenline’s LNG-powered trucks offer a driving range of up to 1,200 kilometers on a single fill and up to 2,400 kilometers with dual tanks. Compared to traditional diesel trucks, LNG trucks can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by up to 40%, significantly lowering particulate matter, SOx, NOx, and carbon emissions as well.
