India and Cyprus Strengthen Strategic Partnership with Investment Goals

New Delhi, May 22: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Nikos Christodoulides of the Republic of Cyprus held a bilateral meeting on Friday at Hyderabad House in New Delhi. During the meeting, Prime Minister Modi warmly welcomed President Christodoulides and his delegation.

In his address, PM Modi expressed his happiness in welcoming President Christodoulides to India. He recalled the warm reception he received in Cyprus last year, where the President honored him with Cyprus’s highest accolade. Modi noted the deep connection and affection shown by Christodoulides towards India during his visit.

The Prime Minister emphasized the strong friendship between India and Cyprus, built on shared values like democracy and the rule of law. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations.

Modi highlighted that investment from Cyprus to India has nearly doubled over the past decade. Trust between the two nations has grown, and new opportunities have emerged from the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement. With this momentum, both countries aim to double investments again in the next five years, elevating their relationship to a ‘strategic partnership.’

The leaders also discussed global issues, including the situations in Ukraine and West Asia, expressing their support for efforts to achieve peace and end conflicts. They agreed on the urgent need to reform global institutions to address rising global challenges. The establishment of the India-Cyprus ‘strategic partnership’ marks a new ambition and pace in their relationship.
