Jagdalpur, 27 August (Kiran News). A tragic incident occurred near Darbha on NH 30 in the Kanger Valley National Park area of Jagdalpur district, Chhattisgarh, when a car was swept away by strong floodwaters. Four members of the same family lost their lives in the accident, including a husband, wife, and their two children. The car’s driver managed to save himself by swimming to safety.
Additional SP Maheshwar Nag confirmed the incident on Wednesday, stating that the SDRF team recovered the bodies after a long and challenging operation late at night and sent them to the hospital for post-mortem.
According to Additional SP, the family, originally from Tamil Nadu, was traveling in their car to visit the Tirathgarh waterfall to enjoy the rainy season. The car owner, 43-year-old Rajesh, worked as a contractor in Raipur. On Tuesday, Rajesh was traveling with his wife Pavitra, 40, and their children, Soujanya, 7, and Soumya, 4, from Raipur to the Danteshwari Temple in Dantewada. After visiting the temple, they proceeded towards Tirathgarh later that day. As their vehicle reached near Kanger Valley, heavy rainfall led to strong currents that swept the car away.
The Darbha police and rescue team arrived promptly at the scene to save the family. However, due to the high floodwaters, all four family members lost their lives. The SDRF team recovered the bodies late at night and sent them to Mekaj Hospital in Jagdalpur, where the bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem today. It is reported that at the time of the accident, the car driver managed to survive by swimming to a tree for safety. The accident is believed to have occurred due to negligence during the strong water flow.
