
Rome, May 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi described his recent discussions with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as highly productive. He announced that India and Italy have elevated their relationship to the level of a “Special Strategic Partnership” to strengthen bilateral ties.
In a post on the social media platform X, PM Modi emphasized Prime Minister Meloni’s full commitment to advancing India-Italy friendship. He noted significant progress in various sectors, including trade, space, and technology.
PM Modi stated, “The conversation with Prime Minister Meloni was exceptional. Her dedication to enhancing India-Italy friendship is commendable. Our relations have strengthened considerably in trade, space, technology, and other areas. We have upgraded our relationship to a Special Strategic Partnership to deepen our mutual engagement.”
He also mentioned that both leaders reviewed the progress of the India-Italy Joint Strategic Action Plan for 2025-2029. They agreed to further strengthen investment and economic partnerships.
The Prime Minister highlighted that the India-European Union Free Trade Agreement could present a historic opportunity for both nations. During discussions, they also covered topics such as digital infrastructure, connectivity, science, artificial intelligence (AI), and other modern sectors.
Earlier, during a joint press conference in Rome, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni praised India’s work culture by referencing the Hindi word ‘parishram’ (hard work). She stated, “Hard work is the key to success,” and expressed that the India-Italy relationship is progressing with the same spirit of dedication and effort.
