AI to Enhance Traffic and Emergency Services for Ujjain Kumbh Mela 2028

Bhopal, May 20: The sacred city of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh is set to host the Kumbh Mela in 2028. To ensure smooth traffic management and efficient emergency services during this religious event, preparations are underway to utilize Artificial Intelligence (AI). Discussions have taken place between government officials and representatives from Google Cloud India regarding this initiative.

According to official sources, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav met with Google Cloud India officials at the ministry on Wednesday. They engaged in a roundtable meeting focused on enhancing administrative efficiency in the state, AI-driven governance, and technical support for Kumbh Mela 2028 preparations.

During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary Neeraj Mandloi announced that a significant strategic partnership is being established between the state government and Google Cloud India. A ‘Center for Excellence’ will be set up in Indore, with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to be finalized soon. This center will serve as a hub for AI-based innovation, research, skill development, and technology solutions.

The center aims to connect over 10,000 AI developers who will provide real-time technical support tailored to the needs of Madhya Pradesh and the broader South Global region. Following the India AI Impact Summit 2026, Google Cloud India presented a comprehensive roadmap for AI-driven development and governance aligned with the vision of a ‘prosperous Madhya Pradesh.’

The meeting also emphasized developing Kumbh Mela 2028 as a smart and technology-enabled event. The AI framework proposed by Google includes advanced systems for real-time crowd management, predictive traffic and safety analysis, AI-based emergency response systems, and digital twin models.

Additionally, the concept of a multilingual and voice-enabled AI application named ‘Sahayak’ was introduced. This application will provide real-time information in local languages about crowd conditions, guidance, traffic management, and emergency services for pilgrims attending the Kumbh Mela. This initiative aims to significantly enhance the convenience, safety, and overall management of millions of devotees.

Google has committed to supporting the state with its ‘AI for All’ skilling program, advanced cloud infrastructure, AI and ML-based pilot projects, startup ecosystem enhancement, and strengthening cybersecurity frameworks.
