Guwahati, May 20: Assam Minister and Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) President Atul Bora stated on Wednesday that the substantial mandate received by the NDA alliance in the recent assembly elections reflects the public’s trust in the development initiatives launched by the BJP-led coalition government in the state.
Speaking to reporters before the inaugural session of the newly formed Assam Assembly, Minister Bora described the scale of this electoral victory as unprecedented in Assam’s post-independence politics. He emphasized that the people of Assam have given a decisive mandate to the NDA alliance, noting that such a strong public endorsement is rarely seen during government formation in the state since independence.
He further remarked that the election results clearly indicate the public’s approval of the actions taken by the BJP-led coalition government, particularly under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. This mandate demonstrates that the public appreciates the developmental work carried out during the NDA government’s tenure, especially in the last term under Chief Minister Sarma.
Bora also announced that the NDA alliance has formally proposed senior leader Ranjit Kumar Das’s name for the position of Assam Assembly Speaker. The nomination papers for Ranjit Kumar Das have already been submitted. The BJP, AGP, and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) have jointly proposed and supported his candidacy.
According to the Assam Minister, several senior leaders from the coalition parties and newly elected legislators were present during the submission of the nomination papers, including ministers and legislators from various coalition partners. The AGP leader also mentioned that all 126 newly elected legislators are expected to take their oaths when the house proceedings commence on Thursday.
