Gujarati Author Ratilal Borisagar Reflects on Receiving Padma Award After 65 Years of Writing

Ahmedabad, May 20: Renowned Gujarati author and educator Ratilal Borisagar expressed his surprise at receiving the prestigious Padma Award. He stated that he never expected his humble contributions to writing and teaching would be recognized on a national level.

In an interview in Ahmedabad, Borisagar shared, “I have been writing continuously for 65 years. I started during my high school days, and I still continue today.”

He revealed that he has spent a total of 16 years in primary, secondary, and college education, and worked for 24 years on Gujarati literature textbooks with the Gujarat State School Board.

Borisagar emphasized his commitment to giving back the gifts he has received from God through his work. “I have never expected awards or rewards. Like a mother, I find joy in whatever is given, and I have no complaints if nothing is given. I take pleasure in what comes naturally. Receiving national recognition brings happiness,” he stated.

He acknowledged that while he has received several awards and honors, he has always found contentment in what he has naturally received. “Now, my work has been recognized nationally with the Padma Award, which is a matter of great joy,” he added.

Borisagar praised the recent changes in the Padma Award selection process. “Times are changing. Previously, only big names received awards, but now the Indian government is recognizing lesser-known individuals who are respected in their fields but may not be widely known across the country. Their dedication and service are being valued. I express my gratitude to the Indian government for this,” he remarked. He noted that he never thought he would receive the Padma Award, although he has received many literary accolades before.

Regarding the award ceremony, he mentioned that he will travel to Delhi on May 24 and attend the Padma Award distribution ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan on May 25 at 5 PM.

Ratilal Borisagar, who has made continuous contributions to literature and education for 65 years, has been honored with the Padma Award this year. He regards the award as a natural outcome of his service and dedication, commending the Indian government for its recognition.
