
New Delhi, May 20: India’s candy export has witnessed a remarkable increase of approximately 166% since the fiscal year 2013-14, according to Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Commerce and Industry.
Sharing the export figures on the social media platform ‘X’, Goyal revealed that the export of candies, caramels, and similar sweets rose from ₹496.8 million in 2013-14 to ₹1.32 billion in the fiscal year 2025-26.
In his post, Goyal remarked, “India’s candy story is truly music to the ears. Since 2013-14, exports have surged by nearly 166%.” He added that the sweetness of ‘Made in India’ candies is being appreciated worldwide.
Earlier on Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted a packet of Melody candies to Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni during his visit to Rome.
The light-hearted and informal exchange between the two leaders quickly went viral on social media, reviving the popular hashtag ‘#Melody’. This term combines the names of Prime Minister Modi and Meloni.
Later, Meloni shared a video of the meeting on X, where she was seen laughing with Modi while discussing the gift.
In the video, she stated, “Prime Minister Modi brought us a gift — a very nice candy — Melody.”
Meloni also thanked Modi for the gift in her post’s caption, leading to increased discussions about ‘Melody’ on social media.
This hashtag first gained global attention during the COP28 summit held in Dubai when Meloni posted a selfie with Modi, captioned, “Good friends at COP28, #Melody.”
Since then, their warm public meetings at various international events, including the G20 summit in New Delhi, have remained a hot topic on social media.
Earlier on Wednesday, images and videos from a special dinner near Rome’s historic Colosseum also attracted significant online attention.
The two leaders were seen engaging in informal conversations, taking selfies, and enjoying a relaxed atmosphere, with pictures and videos quickly going viral.
