Shivakumar Accepts Kumaraswamys Challenge on Bidadi Township Project

Bengaluru, May 20: Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar launched a sharp attack on Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda regarding the controversial Bidadi Township project. He asserted that the land acquisition process for this project began during his tenure.

Speaking after a discussion with farmers at his official residence in Kumar Park, Shivakumar expressed his readiness to accept Kumaraswamy’s challenge on the Bidadi Township issue and requested him to set a time and place for a public debate.

Shivakumar stated that Kumaraswamy had allegedly issued a challenge regarding the Bidadi Township matter. “I am ready to accept it. I just need three days. Let him decide the date, place, and time,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister assured farmers that compensation for the land acquired for the township project would start being disbursed in the first week of June.

He mentioned that the government has decided to release the final notification in phases, adding that nearly 80% of the farmers in the area have agreed to the project and are demanding prompt compensation.

Shivakumar clarified that the initiation of the project was not his doing but was started during Kumaraswamy’s tenure as Chief Minister.

He alleged that notifications for land acquisition had already been issued at that time, and a decision had been made to allocate 8,000 square feet of developed land to affected farmers.

He noted that the project was initially awarded to DLF, but the company later withdrew, citing impracticality.

Additionally, he pointed out that during the tenures of former Chief Ministers Jagadish Shettar and Basavaraj Bommai, the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board acquired nearly 1,000 acres of land in the same region, without any objections raised at that time.

Shivakumar accused the Janata Dal (Secular) leadership of politicizing the issue despite their involvement in the project’s early stages.
