Jodhpur, December 2 (Daily Kiran) – The Rajasthan High Court has ordered the suspension of Station House Officer (SHO) Hamir Singh of Kudi Bhagtasani police station in Jodhpur West district following a viral video showing alleged mistreatment of lawyers.
The incident occurred on Monday evening when SHO Hamir Singh had an altercation with advocate Bharat Singh Rathore. A video of the alleged misconduct by the police officer went viral on social media, sparking outrage among the legal community. Lawyers quickly mobilised and staged a protest demonstration at Kudi police station, demanding action against the SHO and staff.
By Tuesday morning, a significant number of advocates had gathered at the police station, continuing their protest. The Rajasthan High Court took cognisance of the incident and summoned Police Commissioner, DCP West, ACP, and the SHO to appear in court.
Acting judges SP Sharma and BS Sandhu heard the matter in the morning and were shown the viral video. The court reprimanded the police over the incident and ordered the installation of CCTV cameras at the police station. The court directed the suspension of the SHO and removal of police personnel who were on duty at the station during the incident. The court also mentioned conducting an inquiry through an IPS officer.
Police Commissioner Om Prakash assured the court that such incidents would not be repeated and agreed to remove the SHO along with the evening duty staff.
The incident occurred when advocate Bharat Singh Rathore and a woman lawyer visited Kudi Bhagtasani police station with a rape victim. An argument broke out between the advocate and SHO Hamir Singh over action in the case and police personnel not wearing uniforms. The viral video shows the advocate being forcibly taken inside the station, while his colleague protested.
Advocate Rathore later alleged that he was mistreated at the station and that the SHO misused his authority while showing off his uniform. The video quickly went viral on social media, prompting lawyers from the Rajasthan High Court Association and Lawyers Association to unite and demand action. Protests and demonstrations continued until Tuesday morning.
