Iran Claims U.S. Responded to 14-Point Plan Amid Ongoing Ceasefire Talks

Tehran, May 4: After a two-week ceasefire, no progress has been made in the reconciliation talks between Iran and the United States. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Ismail Baghaei, announced that the U.S. has responded to Iran’s proposed 14-point plan aimed at ending the conflict.

In an interview with state-run IRIB TV, Baghaei stated that the Iranian side is currently reviewing the U.S. response. He emphasized that Iran’s plan focuses solely on ending the war and does not include any details related to nuclear issues.

“We are currently concentrating on parameters related to ending the war in the region, including Lebanon. At this stage, we are not discussing nuclear matters,” Baghaei noted, despite the fact that the U.S. main concern revolves around nuclear issues.

Iran has repeatedly denied any attempts to develop nuclear weapons, asserting that its program is intended solely for peaceful purposes. However, it remains the only country without nuclear weapons that has enriched uranium to near-weapon-grade levels.

According to the Xinhua news agency, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif also briefed his Omani and German counterparts on Iran’s new diplomatic efforts and initiatives to end the conflict.

In separate phone calls, Zarif discussed recent regional and international developments with Omani Foreign Minister Sayyid Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al Busaidi and German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas.

On February 28, Israel and the U.S. launched attacks on Tehran and other cities, resulting in the deaths of Iran’s then-Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, senior commanders, and civilians. In retaliation, Iran targeted Israeli and U.S. airbases and assets in the region with missile and drone strikes.

Following the ongoing attacks, a ceasefire was implemented on April 8, leading to discussions between Iranian and U.S. delegations in Pakistan. However, no deal has been reached between the two sides.
