Yangon, May 4: Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, the Chief of the Indian Navy, met with Rear Admiral Aung Aung Naing, head of Myanmar’s Central Naval Command, and Rear Admiral Khun Aung Kyaw, head of the Training Command, during his official four-day visit to Myanmar. The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between the two navies, strengthening defense partnerships, and increasing joint operational activities.

The Indian Navy reported that both nations explored ways to improve training cooperation and discussed potential new areas for collaboration. Admiral Tripathi was welcomed with a formal guard of honor at the Central Naval Command headquarters in Yangon, where he engaged in talks with his Myanmar counterparts.

The conversations included topics such as bolstering naval cooperation, expanding defense partnerships, conducting joint exercises, ensuring maritime security, and creating a safe maritime environment. They also considered training collaboration and new opportunities for future cooperation.

During his visit, Admiral Tripathi toured Myanmar’s Naval Training Command, where he handed over several projects developed with India’s assistance. He was briefed on Myanmar Navy’s training facilities and ongoing collaboration between the two navies, which includes the role of mobile training teams aiding in capacity building and professional training.

He officially handed over projects prepared with the support of the Indian government, including containerized small arms simulators and rigid inflatable boats. These initiatives aim to enhance maritime security in the Bay of Bengal region, aligning with India’s ‘SAGAR’ vision.

These meetings provided an opportunity to review ongoing maritime cooperation, strengthen operational-level relations, and explore new avenues for collaboration. During his visit, the Navy Chief will also pay tribute at the memorial for Myanmar’s armed forces’ fallen heroes.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the Indian and Myanmar navies regularly engage in defense cooperation meetings, staff talks, training exchanges, and joint exercises, including the India-Myanmar Naval Exercise (IMNEX), Indo-Myanmar Coordinated Patrol (IMCOR), port visits, and hydrographic surveys.

The ministry stated that this visit further solidifies the long-standing friendship between India and Myanmar, based on mutual trust and shared goals of maritime security and stability in the Indian Ocean region.
