New Delhi, May 4: A devastating fire broke out late Sunday night in a building located in the Chawri Bazar area of Old Delhi, leading to chaos in the vicinity. The blaze reportedly started in a card warehouse near Gujarat Namkeen and quickly spread throughout the building.

The fire department received the emergency call at 9:07 PM. Upon notification, five fire engines rushed to the scene to combat the flames.

Witnesses reported that the flames rapidly engulfed the upper floors of the building. Within moments, an entire room was ablaze, with intense flames rising from the upper levels. This incident caused widespread panic among local residents.

Firefighters arrived promptly and began efforts to control the fire. However, the narrow alleys posed challenges for rescue operations. Initial reports indicate that the fire originated in the card warehouse.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. Fire department and police teams are currently on-site investigating the incident.

Earlier, a severe fire had also occurred in a multi-story residential building in the Vivek Vihar area of Shahdara, resulting in nine fatalities.

The fire control room received alerts, and upon arrival, it was discovered that the flames were spreading on the second, third, and fourth floors. Approximately 12 to 14 fire engines were deployed to the scene. Firefighters, police, crime teams, traffic police, and DDMA personnel collaborated on rescue efforts.

After nearly two hours of intense firefighting, the blaze was brought under control by 6:25 AM, although search operations continued.

DCP Rajendra Prasad Meena from Shahdara reported that during the rescue operation, around 10 to 15 individuals were safely evacuated. Two of them sustained minor injuries and were transported to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital. Additionally, several other injured individuals have been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
