Bilaspur, July 31 – A significant development has emerged in an online fraud case in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district, where a woman accused in a ₹15.35 lakh scam has reached a settlement with the complainant. The High Court has granted relief to the woman accused, Gulshana alias Shalini Kumari, taking into account the repayment and mutual agreement with the victim.

The case originated from a complaint filed by Bajrang Sahu under the Saragaon police station, based on which the police arrested Gulshana along with two other accused – Anil Kumar and Narendra Pratap alias Pankaj Kumar. Cyber Cell Mungeli’s investigation revealed that the defrauded amount was withdrawn from a joint account held by the victim and his brother.

Cash, Fake Documents, and Devices Seized in Raid

During a police raid in Delhi, authorities recovered ₹4.20 lakh in cash, fake Aadhaar cards, a biometric device, and six mobile phones. Additionally, ₹3.38 lakh in the accused’s bank accounts was frozen. During the trial, a settlement was reached between the victim and the woman accused, and ₹5 lakh was returned to the complainant. Following this, the victim filed a petition in court to close the case. However, the trial court rejected the plea, citing that the matter was “time-bound” and should be resolved within six months as per High Court directives.

The woman accused’s husband, Narendra Pratap, is also a co-accused in the case, but the couple is now estranged.

High Court’s Directive

In its order issued Wednesday evening, the Chhattisgarh High Court observed that the petitioner is a woman and that her relationship with her husband (a co-accused) has deteriorated due to the present incident, and she has separated from him. The Court also noted that the petitioner has returned the money to the complainant and a settlement deed has been executed between them.

In light of this, the High Court directed the lower court to examine the settlement deed and pass an appropriate order. It also instructed that proceedings should continue against other co-accused with whom no settlement has been made, provided there are no legal obstacles.

The High Court further directed the petitioner to submit an application before the lower court regarding this order, and a decision must be taken within two weeks. The original copy of the settlement deed shall be returned to the petitioner after retaining a photocopy.
