New Delhi, May 4: The festival of One-Dant Sankashti Chaturthi, dedicated to Lord Ganesha, falls on May 5 (Tuesday). This celebration occurs on the fourth day of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Baisakh. Devotees perform special prayers and rituals for the One-Dant form of Lord Ganesha on this day.
One-Dant Ganesha is considered one of the Ashtavinayak forms of Ganesha. According to mythology, while on his way to meet Lord Shiva, Ganesha was stopped by Lord Parshuram. After a dispute, Parshuram struck Ganesha, resulting in the loss of one of his tusks. Since then, he has been known as One-Dant. It is believed that worshipping One-Dant Ganesha on this day helps remove obstacles and grants success. Devotees also seek wisdom, knowledge, and prosperity through this worship. Offering modaks, laddus, and durva grass to Ganesha is considered auspicious on this holy occasion.
