Kabul, May 4: In a significant operation in Afghanistan’s southern Helmand province, counter-narcotics forces have seized a substantial amount of narcotics and materials used in drug production. This information was reported by the government-run Bakhtar News Agency on Sunday.
According to Xinhua News Agency, authorities confiscated approximately 8,170 kilograms of heroin, along with materials utilized for drug manufacturing and processing. This operation is part of ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking and dismantle associated gangs.
Similarly, in western Afghanistan’s Nimroz province, security forces seized 55 kilograms of methamphetamine on Saturday.
Officials stated their commitment to preventing the spread of illegal drugs in the country and strengthening actions against drug-related crimes.
On April 26, the Ministry of Interior reported that 80 individuals were arrested on drug trafficking charges during joint operations across various provinces.
According to the ministry, counter-narcotics police conducted raids in several areas, seizing large quantities of hashish, narcotic pills, and materials used for heroin production.
The statement emphasized that these arrests are part of a nationwide campaign aimed at curbing drug trafficking and dismantling its networks.
On April 15, the provincial director of counter-narcotics in Khost province, Qari Waheedullah Matwakil, announced that police publicly burned over 100 kilograms of various narcotics.
The official warned that no one in the province would be allowed to manufacture or traffic drugs, and strict action would be taken against lawbreakers.
In recent months, the Afghan government has intensified its crackdown on drugs. Police have destroyed opium cultivation across hundreds of acres and have also eliminated several tons of narcotics.
