Noida, May 4: The weather in the National Capital Region (NCR) has taken a refreshing turn. According to the meteorological department, rainfall that began last night continued into the morning of May 4. This downpour has provided significant relief to residents grappling with intense heat.
Strong winds, thunder, and light to moderate rain have led to a notable drop in both maximum and minimum temperatures. The meteorological department reported a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 24 degrees Celsius on May 4. Throughout the day, “thunderstorms with rain” are expected.
In the afternoon and evening, light rain accompanied by winds gusting at 40-50 km/h is also anticipated. The weather is expected to remain similar on May 5, with maximum temperatures around 32 degrees and minimums at 23 degrees. No special warnings have been issued for this day. However, temperatures could rise to 37 degrees on May 6, with a minimum of 22 degrees, and there is a possibility of lightning amidst partial cloud cover.
On May 7, temperatures are predicted to reach 38 degrees with a minimum of 23 degrees, and the weather will be partially cloudy. The most positive impact of the rain has been observed in air quality. In many areas of NCR, the Air Quality Index (AQI) has improved, moving from ‘moderate’ to ‘good’ categories.
In Noida, the AQI recorded was 92 in Sector 125, 93 in Sector 62, 102 in Sector 1, and 116 in Sector 116. In Ghaziabad, readings included 151 in Govindpuram, 111 in Indirapuram, 209 in Loni, 102 in Sanjay Nagar, 103 in Vasundhara, and 222 in Ved Vihar-Loni. Significant improvements in AQI were also noted in various areas of Delhi.
In Alipur, the AQI was 119, 121 in Ashok Vihar, 101 in Aaya Nagar, 124 in Bawana, and 127 at Burari Crossing. Areas such as the Cantonment Area (89), CRRI Mathura Road (88), and Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range (95) approached the ‘green zone,’ indicating cleaner air.
The continuous rain and strong winds have cleared dust and pollutants from the atmosphere, allowing residents to enjoy fresh, clean air reminiscent of hilly regions. The meteorological department predicts that pleasant weather will continue in NCR for the next four days, providing ongoing relief from the heat.
