New Delhi, March 21: In a strategic move, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge announced the formation of a Political Affairs Committee in Manipur following the appointment of a new state president and leader of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) in February. This committee aims to strengthen the party’s organization ahead of the upcoming assembly elections.
A Congress leader in Imphal stated that the newly established Political Affairs Committee will include four vice presidents and twelve general secretaries. The committee’s members consist of prominent leaders such as Saptagiri Shankar Ulka, state president Okram Ibobi Singh, and CLP leader Khumukcham Meghachandra Singh, along with several other senior figures from the state unit.
Additionally, heads of various frontal organizations within the Congress in the state will serve as ex-officio members of the Political Affairs Committee.
The newly appointed vice presidents include Vidyapati Senjam, L. Tilottama, H. Goswami, and Mohammad Amin Shah. The general secretaries appointed are S. Manaoton Singh, Jitan Singh, Amir Hussain, H. Meghchandra Mangangcha, T. Sokho George, Seram Niken Singh, Kennedy Singh, Chongbiak Thongte, John Panmei, Rabi Khan, and Ningthoujam Popilal Singh.
Earlier in February, Kharge had announced a significant organizational reshuffle in the state, which included the appointment of a new state president, executive president, treasurer, and heads of the election and publicity committees of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC).
Okram Ibobi Singh, a former three-time chief minister, was appointed as the president of the MPCC. Khumukcham Meghachandra Singh, the then state president, became the leader of the CLP, while K. Ranjit was named the deputy leader of the CLP.
Former MLA Victor Kishing and Manga Waifei were appointed as executive presidents of the MPCC. Victor Kishing is the son of former chief minister Rishang Keishing. Former MLA Fazur Rahim was designated as the treasurer of the MPCC.
Former assembly speaker and MLA T. Lokeshwar Singh was appointed as the head of the publicity committee, while former MPCC president and former minister Moirangthem Okendro was named the head of the election committee. The AICC’s release acknowledged the contributions of outgoing state president Khumukcham Meghachandra Singh.
Former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh previously served as the CLP leader before the organizational changes made in February.
