New Delhi, May 19: The Anti-Auto Theft Squad (AATS) in Shahdara has successfully dismantled a significant organized vehicle theft gang. The team apprehended a notorious interstate vehicle thief and recovered four stolen luxury cars based on his information.
This successful operation resolved four vehicle theft cases across the South-East, East, and Shahdara districts of Delhi. Additionally, it exposed an interstate vehicle theft network operating in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Telangana.
On May 6, the AATS received intelligence that a notorious thief was heading towards Shahdara with a stolen Maruti Brezza. Under the leadership of Inspector Prateek Saxena, the team set up a blockade near the Kakardooma Flyover and caught the accused, Sadab, red-handed. A stolen Maruti Brezza was also seized from his possession.
During interrogation, Sadab (35 years old, resident of Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh) confessed to his involvement in several thefts. Based on his information, police recovered four stolen cars, including two white and one red Maruti Brezza, along with a Maruti Baleno.
Sadab is a habitual offender with 16 criminal cases registered against him in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Haryana, including seven cases in Delhi alone. He has previously served time for serious offenses such as vehicle theft, the Arms Act, attempted murder, and the Gangster Act.
The accused used electronic devices to steal cars, altered their number plates, and supplied them to buyers in Uttar Pradesh and Telangana, including Dr. Waheed (Hapur), Shameem alias Pilla (Meerut), and Waseem Qureshi (Hyderabad).
Inspector Prateek Saxena led the entire operation, with support from Head Constables Nishant, Neeraj, Rohit, Anuj, Yogendra, and Constable Shubham. The operation was overseen by ACP Mohinder Singh and DCP Shahdara.
Shahdara District Police Commissioner Rajendra Prasad Meena (IPS) stated that efforts to combat vehicle theft will be intensified, aiming to completely eradicate the interstate network.
