Udaipur, May 18, 2026 (Daily Kiran): Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy visited the Rajpura Dariba Complex of Hindustan Zinc Limited in Rajasthan and reviewed the company’s mining, smelting, technology and community development operations.

During the visit, the minister toured the company’s Sindesar Khurd Mine, regarded among the world’s leading underground silver mines, and the Dariba Smelting Complex. He inspected the control room, cell house and cathode yard, and also viewed the company’s product gallery.
Officials presented details about the mine’s history, production capacity, safety systems, paste filling operations and tele-remote mining technology through a special presentation at the Sindesar Khurd conference hall. The minister also witnessed demonstrations of remotely operated machinery and appreciated the live demo by the country’s first women mine rescue team.
The visit highlighted Hindustan Zinc’s role in supporting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat 2047. The company currently has an annual metal production capacity of over 1.1 million tonnes and is contributing towards strengthening India’s critical minerals value chain and domestic manufacturing ecosystem.
Speaking during the visit, G Kishan Reddy said Hindustan Zinc’s operations reflect India’s progress towards building a modern, responsible and self-reliant mining sector. He said the company’s focus on advanced technology, operational excellence, safety and social development aligns with the national vision of a developed India by 2047.
Hindustan Zinc CEO Arun Misra, Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Coal and Mines Vivek Bajpai and other senior officials were also present during the visit.
The minister later had lunch with 54 ‘Zinc Ratna’ workers at the Sindesar Khurd mine canteen and interacted with women mining engineers and employees. He appreciated the company’s contribution towards the growth of India’s mining sector.
During the tour, the minister also reviewed the company’s CSR initiatives, including women empowerment programmes under Sakhi, educational projects such as Shiksha Sambal and Unchi Udaan, mobile health vans, cancer screening services and RO water ATM facilities in rural areas.
He also interacted with women players from the Zinc Football Academy and youths who benefited from the Unchi Udaan initiative and are now employed in companies such as Coal India Limited.
The minister discussed the growing role of women in mining and said women are increasingly contributing to India’s progress through technology-driven sectors.
The company said the visit further reinforced its commitment towards responsible mining, advanced technology, environmental sustainability and community development, while contributing to India’s long-term mineral security and economic growth.
