YSR Congress Protests Rising Fuel Prices in Andhra Pradesh

Amaravati, May 18: The YSR Congress Party organized significant protests across Andhra Pradesh on Monday in response to the rising prices of petrol and diesel. Under the leadership of party chief and former Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, leaders, workers, and supporters staged large-scale demonstrations in all assembly constituencies, demanding an immediate rollback of the increased fuel prices.

Rallies, sit-ins, marches, and protests were held in nearly every region of the state. Party leaders submitted memorandums to collectors, RDOs, and tehsildars, urging an immediate reduction in fuel prices.

YSR Congress leaders accused the ruling coalition government of forgetting its promise to lower fuel prices before the elections. They highlighted that the steep increase in petrol and diesel prices has placed a significant economic burden on farmers, the middle class, transport workers, and daily wage laborers. Additionally, the rising costs of essential goods are adding to the financial strain.

In Guntur, former minister Ambati Rambabu led the protests, stating that Andhra Pradesh has the highest fuel prices in the country. He accused Minister Nara Lokesh of forgetting election promises and quipped, “Lokesh is no longer ‘Love-Kesh’ but ‘Love-Cash’ now.” He warned that if prices do not decrease, the protests will intensify.

In Vijayawada West, former minister Velampalli Srinivasa Rao staged a unique protest by pulling an auto-rickshaw with ropes near the Vidyadharapuram tehsil office.

A large rally was held in Vijayawada, led by former NTR district president Devineni Avinash, where motorcycles were symbolically placed on bullock carts.

In Krishna district, Devabhaktuni Chakravarthy conducted a foot march from Tadigadapa to the municipal office. Meanwhile, in Nellore, former minister Kakani Govardhan Reddy and MLC Chandrashekar Reddy organized an auto-rickshaw rally. Kakani criticized leaders who took selfies at petrol pumps before the elections but are now silent on rising prices.

In Railway Kodur, former MLA Koramuthula Srinivasulu tied auto-rickshaws to buffaloes for a rally, stating that heavy VAT and cess imposed by the state government have pushed petrol prices to ₹113.62 and diesel to ₹101.24 per liter.

In Kothapeta, Konaseema district president Chirla Jaggireddy protested by placing a motorcycle on a cycle rickshaw. In Panyam, former MLA Katasani Ramabhupal Reddy pulled autos and bullock carts with ropes. Significant protests also occurred in Nandyal, Udayagiri, Machilipatnam, Visakhapatnam, and Pulivendula.

Former minister Botsa Satyanarayana remarked in Chepurupalli that rising fuel prices have severely impacted farmers, laborers, and the middle class. The YSR Congress will continue to fight for the people’s issues.
