West Bengal Ends Allowances for Imams and Priests, BJP Leader Calls It a Positive Step

Hyderabad, May 19: The West Bengal government has announced the termination of allowances for imams and priests. This decision was made during a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari. The move has sparked political debates across the state. BJP leader T.R. Srinivas from Hyderabad praised the decision, questioning the policies of the previous government in West Bengal.

In an exclusive interview with a news agency, T.R. Srinivas stated that the funds allocated for imams and priests have been halted. He described this as a very positive development initiated by Chief Minister Shuvendu Adhikari. Criticizing former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, he pointed out that only ₹155 crore was allocated for science and technology in the last interim budget, while a staggering ₹5700 crore was earmarked for imams, madrasas, and minority communities.

Srinivas accused the previous government of promoting illegal immigration and pro-minority politics. He questioned, “Can you believe this? It reflects their intention to create a so-called pro-minority or pro-immigrant framework, which they claimed was Indian.”

Regarding the stone-pelting incident in Kolkata’s Park Circus area, Srinivas commented on CM Shuvendu’s statement, asserting that stone-pelting has ended in Kashmir and will also cease in West Bengal. He supported the Chief Minister’s remarks, stating that the situation is straightforward. During Mamata Banerjee’s 15 years of chaotic governance, lawlessness prevailed, particularly among illegal immigrants, Rohingyas, and Bangladeshis. They occupied streets and footpaths, leading to significant illegal constructions. The transformation of Howrah Station was so drastic that it became unrecognizable. The recent cleanup drive made them feel the impact.

On CM Yogi Adityanath’s comments regarding prayers on public roads, the BJP leader agreed, stating that with Bakrid approaching, prayers should not obstruct traffic and inconvenience people of other faiths. He emphasized that there are ample places available for prayers. “I want to ask the Muslim community why they don’t use the many Waqf lands available to them. What is the issue? Is it a show of strength? Please adhere to the country’s laws,” he urged.
