Prime Minister Modi and Norways PM Engage in Meaningful Dialogue on Green Strategic Partnership
New Delhi, May 19: Prime Minister Narendra Modi described his recent discussions with Norway’s Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo as highly meaningful. During their meeting, both leaders agreed to advance their partnership under the framework of a ‘Green Strategic Partnership.’
In a post on social media platform X, PM Modi shared insights from the conversation, highlighting that a key aspect was upgrading their bilateral partnership to focus on clean energy, sustainable development, blue economy, and green shipping, among other areas. They also discussed enhancing cooperation in innovation, research, education, healthcare, and skill development. PM Modi expressed his pleasure at Norway’s inclusion in the ‘Indo-Pacific Oceans Initiative.’
On this visit, part of his five-nation tour, PM Modi was warmly welcomed at the airport by Prime Minister Støre himself, showcasing the respect between the two nations. The Indian Ambassador to Norway, Me-Ailin Steiner, and Norway’s Ambassador to India, Gloria Gangte, along with other senior officials, were also present.
During his trip, PM Modi met King Harald V at the Royal Palace in Oslo. The two leaders specifically discussed the growing collaboration between Indian and Norwegian companies in the field of emerging technologies.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), PM Modi praised Norway’s natural beauty and noted that the longstanding friendship between India and Norway continues to strengthen based on shared values such as democracy, rule of law, and people-centric governance.
Later, King Harald hosted a lunch in honor of PM Modi, who expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and hospitality.
Earlier that day, PM Modi was awarded the prestigious ‘Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit,’ the highest civilian honor given to foreign heads of state and government in Norway. After receiving the award, he stated, “I feel honored to receive the Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit. This honor is dedicated to the people of India and symbolizes the strong friendship between India and Norway. It reflects our shared commitment to global progress.”
