Patna, May 19: Bihar police have intensified their crackdown on criminals. Late Monday night, in the Gopalpur area of Patna, a suspect involved in the recent robbery of a cash van was injured during a police encounter. The suspect sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. Additionally, three other suspects have been arrested in connection with the case.
A police officer reported on Tuesday that on May 13, five unidentified criminals executed a robbery at the CMS company’s cash van, threatening the staff with weapons. Given the seriousness of the incident, a special team was formed under the supervision of the Superintendent of Police (East), Patna, to expedite the investigation.
The team identified the involved criminals through technical analysis, CCTV footage review, and human intelligence. Following this, continuous raids were conducted to apprehend the suspects.
On Monday night, three individuals were arrested as part of this operation. After receiving information about another suspect’s whereabouts, the police team conducted a raid. During the operation, the suspect unexpectedly opened fire on the police.
Kartikeya Sharma, the Senior Superintendent of Police in Patna, stated that the police team responded with controlled defensive action, resulting in one bullet hitting the suspect in the leg. The injured suspect, identified as Nitish Kumar, was taken into custody and sent to the hospital for treatment.
During this operation, police recovered ₹5 lakh in cash, four iPhones purchased with the stolen money, the motorcycle used in the crime, a CMS receipt, the clothing worn during the incident, and the weapon used in the shooting. The police are currently investigating the case further. One of the recovered mobile phones is valued at ₹2 lakh.
It is noteworthy that two wanted criminals were injured in separate encounters in Patna and Siwan earlier on Monday.
